Kolej Datoβ Onn Jaafar, Skudai | 17 June 2025 β The night of Tuesday saw a realistic simulation of a fire emergency at Block XC2, KDOJ, involving 267 occupants. The large-scale fire drill was organized to test the alertness, coordination, and response time of students and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) in the event of a real disaster.
The drill commenced at exactly 10:45 PM with a simulated explosion, signaling the start of the emergency. ERT members were quick to act, initiating evacuation procedures across all floors of the block.
Guided by the awareness that Aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant water and littered areas, the team rolled up their sleeves and cleaned up critical locations within and around the college. From clearing blocked drains and removing plastic waste to picking up discarded cans and sweeping dead leaves, every hand contributed to a cleaner, safer environment.
10:45 PM β Explosion detected, drill officially begins.
10:48 PM β First mock victim rescued.
10:49 PM β Second victim safely evacuated.
10:55 PM β Full evacuation completed, ambulance simulation arrives.
10:58 PM β Fire successfully extinguished by the ERT.
11:00 PM β Live fire extinguishing demonstration begins.
11:05 PM β Students take part in hands-on fire extinguisher practice.
A total of 166 occupants were evacuated within the drill period, from a total of 271 registered residents. Below is the breakdown by floor:
| Level | Evacuated / Total |
|---|---|
| L1 | 42 / 52 |
| L2 | 26 / 50 |
| L3 | 22 / 34 |
| L4 | 16 / 36 |
| L5 | 8 / 23 |
| L6 | 10 / 22 |
| L7 | 3 / 23 |
Adding realism to the scenario were actress victims, portraying injured or trapped individuals during the evacuation. After the assembly point was secured, a live fire extinguishing demonstration was conducted by the safety team, followed by active student participation where many had the opportunity to use the fire extinguishers themselves.
The management of KDOJ extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to:
