KDOJ Gotong-Royong: Fighting Aedes, Building a Healthier Community

27 May 2025 – In a proactive step to promote environmental cleanliness and prevent the spread of dengue fever, residents and staff of Kolej Dato’ Onn Jaafar (KDOJ), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, came together on 27 May 2025 for a communal gotong-royong.

Guided by the awareness that Aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant water and littered areas, the team rolled up their sleeves and cleaned up critical locations within and around the college. From clearing blocked drains and removing plastic waste to picking up discarded cans and sweeping dead leaves, every hand contributed to a cleaner, safer environment.

The before and after photos highlight the significant impact of the cleanup efforts — drains once clogged with trash were cleared, and open grassy areas previously littered were restored to a neat condition.

This effort was not only about physical cleanliness but also about nurturing communal responsibility. Through collective action, KDOJ demonstrated how students and staff can take charge in safeguarding public health.

Let this initiative serve as a model for other communities — because a clean environment is our first defense against dengue.
